Use Server Settings preferences in Mail to change options for an account’s incoming and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers.
As long as your Mac is connected to the Internet, it will create the correct settings so that you can use Gmail’s mail, calendars, reminders, messages, and notes features. In the menu bar, click Mail and then Preferences. To add a new account, select the Accounts tab and then click on the + button. Enter your name, e-mail address.
To change these preferences in the Mail app on your Mac, choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, then click Server Settings.
Note: The settings you see vary depending on your account type.
